Hosting Help: Update Your Email Account Password in Outlook Express

Step 1:   Open Outlook Express (Hint: Windows XP, Start/Programs/Outlook Express)

Please note this tutorial is based on Windows XP Pro with Outlook Express 6.  Your operating system and Outlook version may be different, resulting in different screen images, navigation structure, and directions, however the basic concept is the same.  Please note, your account password on the server must match your account password in Outlook and is case sensative.  You should only be changing your account password in Outlook after you have changed it on the server, or have been directed to do so by someone indicating your account password is about to or has changed and will require you to modify your local Outlook account password.

Step 2:   Open the accounts control panel by clicking on "Tools/Accounts"

Step 3:   Select the email account you need to update in the "Internet Accounts" window (the account should be hightlighted).  Then, click on the "Properties" button.

Step 4:   Next click on the "Servers" tab, in the section marked "Incoming Mail Server" remove the exisitng password by clearing the dots, and carefully typing in the new password, keeping in mind your password is case sensative.  Once you have completed updating your password, make sure the "Remember password" box is checked and then click the "Apply" button.

Step 5:   Click on "Ok".

Step 6:   In the next window, click on "Close".

Congratulations!   You have successfully updated your email password in Outlook Express.  It would probably be a good idea at this time to close Outlook, wait a minute, and then open Outlook back up.  Your settings should now have taken affect and you should now be able to send & receive new emails.
